Wingham Town Hall Theatre

The past two years have been tough on everyone, but perhaps few have felt it the same as those in the performing arts.

With theatres and concert halls shuttered for most of the pandemic, artists and audiences alike are eager for stages to once again be active.

Wingham has a long history of both live performances and broadcasts, as the town is known throughout the country as the home of CKNX and one of the smallest towns to ever boast both radio and television studios.

Wingham’s Town Hall Theatre, recently renovated and refreshed, is taking tentative steps to welcome back the public with the first shows booked in for April and May.

The first band back in the hall is no stranger to the area. Often playing sold-out shows throughout the area, Mudmen are a Canadian Celtic rock band that plays high-energy shows across the country and have opened for ZZ Top and The Guess Who, and have even entertained the Queen. The music is big and so are the personalities behind the band, causing a line-up for autographs after every show. They are playing April 30 at 8 p.m. Tickets are on sale at ticketscene.ca but tend to sell out quickly.

The next show is May 4 featuring the Washboard Union on their “Everbound for Your Town Tour” to promote their latest album. This Juno Award winners and seven-time Canadian Country Music Award-winning trio brings “an irresistible blend of roof-raising anthems and poignant ballads” to the stage. This all-ages show is at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are available through ticketmaster.ca or link through their website at www.thewashboardunion.ca
