SEAFORTH'S 150th HOMECOMING
When organizers of the Seaforth Homecoming -150- Weekend started the planning process back in 2022, they knew they wanted the event to be inclusive. Reegan Price, one of the organizing committee members, says that they created a mission statement, “to make it an open invitation to everyone who once lived in our little town or surrounding communities, those who still live here, those who may have once had a connection to our community and anyone else who just wants to have a good time, to join us on the Civic Holiday weekend in 2025!”
Thanks to the collaborative efforts of all of the clubs, organizations, volunteers and the Municipality of Huron East, the plans are coming together for five days of non-stop activities.
There is literally something for everyone. If you want to party until the cows come home, there are night concerts and street dances, if you want to visit quietly with old friends there’s beer gardens or the high school reunion on Sunday morning. Maybe you’re the competitive type, there are golf tournaments, cornhole tournaments, and pickleball tournaments. Some people prefer to watch sports, and the Walton Brewers are taking on the Fullarton As in a furious fastball game at Optimist Park. Bring the kids for all the games and activities, including a bike rodeo, teddy bear picnic and a model airplane assembly station. The BIA is hosting sidewalk sales, and the annual Seaforth Summerfest will take over Main St.
Maybe you’re more cerebral and are looking forward to the Huron County Archives display, the Trivia Night with Phil Main and Doors Open Seaforth will give you glimpses of some of the town’s treasured buildings.
Culture vultures can stop by the Seaforth Public School for the Art Show.
Don’t forget to bring your appetite! You will be fed. Pork chop bbq, chicken dinners, fish fry, breakfasts on the grounds of Van Egmond House, food trucks, local restaurants offering a respite from the bustle - the list goes on.
No homecoming is complete without a parade, and everyone is invited to join in when it takes over the main street on Sunday at 2 p.m. (The 1995 committee was able to build a three-plus hour parade and have thrown down the gauntlet to their 2025 successors!)
Price says the organizing committee’s job was made so much easier by all of the groups who jumped in to create all the events - the Lions, Optimists, Legion, Ag Society, Curling Club, the Huron Heat, the Centenaires - the list goes on and on.
