Seaforth - Parks & Picnics

The return of warmer weather is on its way. With the trees in bud and the bird song getting a little bit louder, it’s time for getting outdoors. And we like the idea of a picnic in the park.

The Seaforth Lions Club Park, located on Highway 8, is an ideal spot to spread out the picnic and bask in the sunshine. A babbling creek runs alongside the park where a picnic area awaits visitors. Facilities also include the public pool and washrooms, as well as the baseball diamond and ample space for children to run. 42971 Huron Rd. (Highway 8 East), Seaforth.

For a wander in a park, the grounds of the Van Egmond House and nearby cemetery in Egmondville provide a bit of historical insight into the local region. Picnickers are welcome to grab a seat on the porch or throw down a blanket on the grounds. 80 Kippen Rd., Seaforth.

The Optimist Park, with its play structures, is a popular stop for children and the dog park for furry friends, is another option for a family picnic. 170 Sills St., Seaforth.

As for picnic fare, Seaforth has no shortage of takeout dining options for travellers who may not have packed a lunch. 

We asked the locals for their input on where the best takeout comes from and they’ve said great things about their local restaurants. 

Locals say the best pizza in town comes from Pizza Train, located on Highway 8, just west of the lights.  22 Goderich St. W., Seaforth. 

After its success in nearby Perth County, The Hub Pub and BBQ will open its Seaforth location in April in the downtown core. The restaurant, known for its house-made pepperettes and takeaway daily specials, is perfect for a picnic in the park. 164 Main St. S., Seaforth.

For Asian flavours, Maria’s Wok and Dine on the town’s main street is popular with locals for its spicy noodle dishes.  Across the street at the family-run Wong’s Grill, takeout options draw crowds from across the county seeking Chinese takeout. 23 Main St. S., Seaforth.

The Seaforth Golf and Country Club also garnered top reviews when speaking with the locals for its different specials available each day, particularly fish and chips on Fridays. 42990 Front Rd. S., Seaforth.

Freeze King, with its own park-like setting and play structures for children, will reopen when the warmer weather returns.  More than just ice cream, as the name implies, this popular spot serves up your char-broiled burgers and is famous for its fresh-dipped battered fish for a true Huron County drive-in experience.
