Clinton Homecoming

The town of Clinton is celebrating 150 years of incorporation with a three-day, town-wide Homecoming celebration on July 4th, 5th and 6th. Everyone with a connection to Clinton is encouraged to come “home”, to connect and swap stories with friends old and new, and partake in the celebration activities that are planned all weekend long.

While there will be plenty of historical information about the town and its buildings, businesses, leaders, and families, including historical displays, guided walking tours, and more, there will also be plenty of other activities and attractions for those who are less historically-motivated (like your toddler or your cousin who is practically nicknamed “Beer Tent”).

I know when people say “something for everyone”, they usually mean a colouring book and a hard bench, but the Clinton 150th Homecoming really does tick all the boxes.

There are family and kids activities on each day, including a Teddy Bear Parade, rock climbing, bouncy castles, paddle boats, and more.

The 19+ crowd, whose tastes have evolved only slightly since the bouncy castle days, have their own fun: a beer tent (the bouncy castle for adults), a street dance, and live music at the Grandstands.

Those of more mature, refined tastes can enjoy a Garden Party at the lovely Kildonan House, a car show, and all-denominations church service. There are also activities that bring us all together, like the Cornhole Tournament, food trucks, an outdoor movie, fireworks and a drone show, to name a few.

Family and kids events will be free admission, so our youngest generation can make new memories of good times in their hometown, just like ours (but with drones).

I can attest as a born-and-raised Clintonian that, if there’s one thing Clinton knows how to do better than anything, it’s throw a party. This is one you won’t want to miss.
